The course was inaugurated in 1961 and designed by English architect C. Kenneth Cotton. It has been host to important events, some of which international, such as the Italian Open in the 2002, the Professional World Team Championship in 1968 and 1984 and other Italian Golf Federation competitions. In 2012, the course was redesigned by American architect Jim Fazio.
